At NASLCAL, we are committed to serving Native American communities and individuals both inside and outside of California's correctional facilities. Our programs are designed to address the unique needs and challenges faced by Native American people, and to support their healing, growth, and success.
CORRECTIONAL FACILITY PROGRAMS
Our team of Native American Spiritual Leaders/Advisors work inside California correctional facilities to support Native American inmates in their journey towards healing and reintegration into their communities by offering a range of programs and services to support the spiritual and cultural needs of institutional residents. Our programs include:
Spiritual & Cultural Teachings: We provide opportunities for residents to connect with their cultural heritage and spiritual practices through teachings, ceremonies, and cultural values.
Dance, Songs, Drumming: Our dance, songs, and drumming programs allow residents to express themselves through traditional forms of creative expression and to connect with their cultural community.
Red Road & Talking Circles: Our Red Road and talking circles provide residents with a safe and supportive space to share their thoughts and experiences, to build relationships with one another, and to engage in traditional healing practices.
Counseling & Mentoring: Our counseling and mentoring programs provide residents with one-on-one support and guidance as they work to overcome personal challenges and prepare for reentry into their communities.
Reentry: Our reentry programs support residents as they prepare to transition back into their communities, connecting them with resources and support networks to help them succeed.
Consultation: Our team of advisors is available to provide consultation and support to residents, their families, and the communities they belong to.
Through these programs and services, our team aims to help Native American inmates connect with their cultural roots and traditions, heal from past traumas, and gain the skills and support needed to successfully reintegrate back into their communities and prevent recidivism.
Community-based Programs:
In addition to our institutional programs, NASLCAL also offers support to affected Native American communities. Our community programs aim to prevent Native American youth from entering the criminal justice system and to help families heal and prepare for their loved ones' return from prison. We offer presentations and mentoring within the community, as well as spiritual advisor support for recovery and rehabilitation, prevention, and connection. Additionally, our spiritual leaders offer wellness ceremonies and help get elders involved in community activities. These community programs offer similar cultural and spiritual teachings and practices as our institutional programs to promote healing and community building.
Join us in our mission to support Native American communities and individuals through our programs and services. By supporting our efforts through a donation, you can make a positive impact on the lives of those we serve.
